Your Right to Make an informed decision on Auto Repairs
Your right to choose a hassle-free way to get your car repaired after an accident is in danger. Tell your legislator to vote "NO" on SB 1167 by Sen. Patricia Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa).
The bottom line is insurers want their customers to make the most informed decisions possible. SB 1167 would not allow that to occur.
The bill is scheduled for a vote on April 16 in the Senate Banking, Finance and Insurance Committee. CLICK HERE to contact members of the committee and urge them to vote "No" on this bill.
SB 1167 goes too far by prohibiting insurers from communicating with their customers once they have selected a repair shop. Even if a customer is having problems with that shop, an insurer can not discuss the issue with the policyholder, under the legislation.
Don't be fooled, the body shops are behind this bill. It's to their personal advantage financially to run up the costs to increase their profits. Unfortunately, those increased costs mean higher premiums for policyholders.
